Artesia finishes 2nd in State

The New Mexico 4A Boys Basketball title belongs to a team from District 4-4A ... just not our team.

The Roswell Coyotes are the State Champions after defeating Artesia 59 to 50 before a packed Pit in Albuquerque.

The game was close through three quarters, but the Coyotes zone defence could not be broken by the Bulldogs, with passes or three point shots, and the Coyotes built a 10 point lead halfway through the 4th quarter, forcing Artesia to begin fouling to conserve clock time.

It was the 4th time the two teams met this season, with Artesia losing three times to the Coyotes.

An Apology to our Internet listeners

Let me apologize to our Internet listeners. In our attempt to bring the highest quality broadcast to the Internet and back home to Artesia, we failed to properly set up our equipment at the Pit and first half Internet listeners only heard crowd noise.

The AM 990 Audience heard the entire game, and we thank Jim, Mike J. and Mary Ann for their help getting the game on the air. We will reassess our procedure to insure this never happens again in the future.
