1st round Playoff game moved to Saturday

After winning their regular season finale at home over Cheyenne East last Friday night, the Laramie Plainsmen (3-6) are getting set for the 4A Playoffs.

As the 7th seed, Laramie opens on the road against 2nd seed Central in Cheyenne.  Originally set for Friday night, a big snowstorm has pushed the game back a day to Saturday afternoon.

Laramie plays at Central at 1 pm Saturday at Riske Field in Cheyenne.

Central won the first meeting this season, 36-0, back in week 3 in Cheyenne.

It all comes down to Friday night

There's a playoff berth on the line, when the Laramie Plainsmen host the Cheyenne East T-Birds Friday night at Deti Stadium in Laramie.

Both teams are 2-6, and with a victory would qualify for the playoffs.  The loser could still slip in the back door, but they would need lots of help.

Plainsmen take on rival Central

The Laramie Plainsmen (1-2) take on the #2 Cheyenne Central Indians (3-0) in the Capital City today.

This long running rivalry started way back in 1916.  Central has controlled this series as of late, as the Indians have won 9 straight.

Laramie opens high school football season

Tonight is the debut of the 2009 Laramie Plainsmen.  With a veteran team returning from last year, expectations are higher for the season.

Laramie hosts the Rock Springs Tigers in their opener.  The Tigers beat LHS in a wild 35-28 overtime thriller last year in Rock Springs.

Kick-off from Deti Stadium is set for 7 p.m. Mountain Time.

Rangers fall Thursday night at State, now face elimination game

After a 21-3 loss to Cheyenne in the 2nd round of the 2009 Wyoming American Legion State Baseball Tournament in Rock Springs last night, the Laramie Rangers will now have to battle their way back through the losers bracket.

Today, the Rangers (27-15) will play one, possibly two games, all while facing elimination in Rock Springs.  Their first game is against the Wheatland Lobos at 12:30 pm.  If Laramie wins, they will turn right back around and play again at 4 pm against the Cody-Powell winner.  If the Rangers lose to the Lobos, then the season comes to an end.

So, needless to say, it's a big day for Laramie Rangers baseball at the 2009 State Tournament.

One down on long journey at State for Rangers

Step one is complete.  The Laramie Rangers (27-14) dominated from start to finish in an impressive 17-2 pounding of the Casper Oilers in their opening round game at the Wyoming American Legion State Baseball Tournament.

Laramie had 23 hits, including 9 extra base hits, among them 4 home runs.  An 8-run 3rd inning broke the game wide open.  The Rangers scored at least one run in all but one of the 7 innings, as the game ended early thanks to the mercy rule.  In fact, every Ranger in the starting line-up had at least one hit.

Laramie was led by Skyler Joy and Rylan Harding, who both had five hits, including a double and home run, scored four runs, and Harding had 3 rbi's, while Joy had a pair.  Nick Armijo and Nolan Carter hit the other two home runs for Laramie.

The Rangers continue in the winners bracket at the State Tournament tonight when they meet perennial powerhouse Cheyenne.  The Rangers fell to them last week at the South District Tournament.

Laramie and Cheyenne are set for a first pitch of 7 pm, Mountain time, from Rock Springs.

Rangers set to face Casper at State

The opening day of the 2009 A & AA American Legion State Baseball Tournament has arrived in Rock Springs, WY.  The Laramie Rangers are getting set to take on the Casper Oilers in their first round game.

These two teams faced each other twice over the Memorial Day weekend in a tournament at Gillette, WY.  Laramie won both games, but that was two months ago.

After last weekend's district tournaments, the Rangers are looking forward to State.  They are the three seed from the South after going 3-1 and finishing 3rd, while Casper is the two seed from the North following their second place effort.

Laramie (26-14) takes on Casper (23-33) at 12:30 pm at the State Tournament in Rock Springs.

Rangers face Green River in must win, may play two today

The Laramie Rangers lost to Cheyenne Post 6 in the semis of the South District Tournament last night, 16-5.  Now Laramie faces a must win this afternoon if they want to qualify for the State Tournament.

Laramie (24-14) takes on the Green River Knights in the do or die game.  The winner will turnaround and play again at 4:00 pm against the winner of Riverton-Torrington for the 3rd or 4th seed from the South at next week's State Tournament.  Laramie and Green River have not played this season.

Rangers advance to semis of District Tournament

After an 18-8 victory over Riverton last night, the Laramie Rangers (24-13) are now in the semifinals of the 2009 South District American Legion Baseball Tournament.

Tonight at 7 they face their longtime rival Cheyenne Post 6 at Cowboy Field.  Believe it or not, these two have not played each other this season.  Laramie need one more win to qualify for the next week's State Tournament in Rock Springs.

The 2009 South District American Legion Baseball Tournament is in Laramie at Cowboy Field today through Saturday.  Teams must win at least two games to qualify for next week's State Tournament.

The Laramie Rangers (23-13) take on the Riverton Raiders in a first round match-up tonight at 7.  These two teams did not face each other in the regular season.
