Long time, no post. 'Cat baseball on the way.

Hey all, it's been a while, eh? Well, don't worry, we've got your sports fix coming up this next week. This weekend, we'll be covering the Wayne State College baseball squad as they try to take the top spot in the NSIC. The top two teams in the league will duke it out as WSC brings in Minnesota State for double-headers on Saturday & Sunday. You can catch all of the action live & direct on Super Hits Y104 and online at WayneDailyNews.com.

We'll be following those broadcasts up with the final home game of the year for the WSC baseball club on Wednesday, April 29.  The 'Cats host St. Cloud State for two on that date to close the home season.  All of these contests are scheduled to start at noon.

State Tournament Broadcast Schedule

We have a number of teams we'll be covering in Lincoln over the next two weeks.

Starting on Thursday (3/5/09), we'll follow the Hartington Cedar Catholic girls basketball squad as they start their State Tournament action with a contest against Aquinas Catholic.  The teams will tip off at 10:45am with the losing team calling it a season.

Next Thursday (3/12/09), we'll follow two regional boys squads, as both Hartington Cedar Catholic and Hartington Public head down to Lincoln.  We'll start the day off bright and early with a 9:00am contest between Hartington CC and Freeman from Lincoln Southeast.  In the afternoon, it's time for a Hartington vs. Humphrey St. Francis re-match from this past Tuesday night.  This time, though, the losing team will be done for the year.

Sub-district Play Turns to the Boys & District Tourney Finals on Friday

This week on Super Hits Y104, we turn our attention to more sub-district play.  Now, however, it's time for the guys to get on the court with their season on the line.

We'll be covering the C2-7 sub-district tournament from Wayne High School this week, starting Monday night at 7:00pm.  The 1st contest of the tourney pits Wakefield against Homer in what should be a close one, looking at earlier this season.  The two teams met on Friday night, with the Trojans clinging to a one point victory.  Back in mid-January, Wakefield took the matchup by three points.  Tune in Monday to find out whose season ends in what should be a close one.

Tuesday, the second round of action comes your way with Ponca battling the Wakefield vs. Homer winner at 6:00pm.  We'll follow that contest up with Laurel-Concord against Hartington CC.  That game is set to tip off at 8:00pm.  All games are played at Wayne HS.

Then, on Thursday, the bracket's winner will be determined when we bring you the C2-7 sub-district final at 7:00pm.

Finally, on Friday, it's back to girls basketball.  We'll be covering the C2-4 district final from Northeast Community College, which pits Lutheran High Northeast against Hartington Cedar Catholic.  The winner will punch their ticket to the state tourney in Lincoln next Thursday.  Friday's contest tips off at 7:00pm.

Last week of the regular season!!

It's the last week of girls hoops before sub-district play begins next Monday, so it's time for the teams to fine tune their basketball engines, if you will.

On Monday night, we'll have a make up game between Pierce and Wayne as the Blue Devils host the Lady Jays at 7:45pm.

On Tuesday, it's a regularly scheduled match at Wayne, with Hartington Cedar Catholic's girls heading to town.  That contest tips off at 8:00pm.

Moving to Thursday, it's regional hoops action as Wisner-Pilger heads northwest to take on Laurel-Concord in a double-header that gets under way at 6:30pm.  The Gator boys are still undefeated this season (as of Monday) and have just a few contests to go before getting into postseason play.  Will the Bears end that run?  Check it out on Thursday night.

Friday, Wayne has their final double-header of the season as the guys & gals travel to Madison.  The action gets under way at 6:15 Friday night.

And on Saturday evening, the Blue Devil boys get in some home hoops against West Point Central Catholic.  That contest will begin at about 7:00pm.

Conference Tourney Time

This week on Super Hits Y104 & WayneDailyNews.com, we've got Mid-State Conference Tournament games coming your way (almost) all week long.

On Monday night, the girls of Wayne High School tip off with a battle of the blue as they take on the Lady Jays of Pierce.  That match starts at 7:45 at Norfolk Catholic.

We'll follow that up with a double-header on Tuesday from Northeast Community College.  First off, the Wayne Blue Devil boys will try to avenge a loss earlier in the season to Norfolk Catholic at 6:15.  Then, the Braves of Battle Creek look to bounce back from some late season woes with a contest against Hartington Cedar Catholic.  That game will start around 7:45.

The teams get Wednesday off before resuming play on Thursday.  On the 5th, we'll cover the Wayne girls again, as they take on Madison at 6:15.  After that, the guys face off with Hartington CC at 7:45 Friday night.  Finally, we'll be there at NECC for the final Wayne match(es) of the tournament on Saturday at 11:00am (if the girls win Thursday) and 12:45pm.(if the boys win Friday).
