Camels Out For Redemption!

The Camels will be looking to win their 5th game in a row when they take to the field Friday night in Cheyenne against Central at 7pm. The Indians handed the Camels their worst loss of the season 48-14 back in week 6 in Cheyenne. In that game the Camels fumbled 4 times and gave up over 500 yards of total offense to the Indians. Both are season highs. Since the last meeting the Camels have won 4 in a row, including last week’s 1^st round playoff win over Rock Springs 27-20.

 

            This game features the top 2 scoring defenses in 4A. Central leads all of 4A giving up just 14.6 ppg. The Camels are 2^nd in 4A giving up 18.6 ppg. The Camels have the #1 overall defense in 4A. They allow just 288 yards of total offense. The Camels will have their hand full against Cheyenne Central, who has the #1 offense in 4A. The Indians average 390 yards per game.

 

            Individually the Indians are lead by QB Connor Long who is 4^th in 4A in passing with 1487 yards with 17 TDs and only 6 interceptions. He leads all of 4A in completion percentage. Completing over 63% of his passes. In Comparison Alan Sisel completes 57% of his passes. Sisel is the #1 ranked passer in 4A. He’s the only QB in the state to have thrown for over 2,000 yards. He has 2,079 yards passing with 17 TDs and 10 interceptions. These two QBs also have the top 2 passer ratings in 4A, Long is the leader with a rating of 155 and Sisel is 2^nd with a rating of 144.

Camel Playoff Football!!

The #3 Camels open up the 2009 Wyoming High School 4A State Football Playoffs at home versus the Rock Springs Tigers on Friday at Camel Field at 7pm. These two teams got to the playoffs on two different paths. The Camels have been eyeing the playoffs all season long after opening up the season with 4 straight wins. The Tigers on the other hand have been playing for the lives after losing their first 4 games of the season, including a week 3 match-up with the Camels 24-8.

 

The Camels lost their first game of the season to Sheridan the same week the Tigers picked up their 1^st win. The Camels lost a heartbreaker at home to Sheridan in the 2009 Energy Bowl 23-14 while the Tigers upset Kelly Walsh 17-14. Over the last 5 weeks of the season these two teams both went 3 and 1. The Camels finished the regular season at 7-2 and the Tigers finished at 4-5. While the Camels were playing for the right to play at home in the playoffs the Tigers were just playing to get into the playoffs, which they did by winning their final 3 games over East (20-0), Natrona (42-35) and Evanston (21-14).

 

The Tigers have an uphill battle when they to take to the field in Gillette at Camel Field where the Camels have lost just once in the last 5 years. The Camels come into the game with the #1 defense in 4A and the Tigers counter with the worst offense in 4A. Gillette gives up just 288 yards of offense per game, while the Tigers average just 254 yards per game. On paper these two teams couldn’t be further apart, but there is a reason the Tigers are in the playoffs as the #6 seed, they saved the best for last. They were able to overcome a very slow start to the season and take advantage of a very favorable schedule to close out the regular season.

The Camels Control Their Playoff Destiny!!

The #4 Camels control their own destiny for the playoffs when they take on #3 Green River on Friday. If the Camels win they’re assured of nothing worse than the #3 seed in the 2009 Wyoming High State Football Playoffs. With a win and a Cheyenne Central loss to Kelly Walsh the Camels would earn the #2 seed in the playoffs and would be at home up until the State Championship game in Laramie at War Memorial Stadium. If the Camels lose to Green River and Kelly Walsh beats Central then a 3-way tie would ensue with the Camels, Trojans and Indians all at 6-3 on the season. The tiebreaker would be record vs. highest untied team. Kelly Walsh wins due to win vs. Sheridan and would get the #3 seed. Central would be #4 due to head-to-head win vs. Gillette, who would be #5. Bottom line is if the Camels win they will be at home for at least one playoff game. The Camels face another very tough running attack this week after containing the Trojans, then #1 rushing attack, they now face the 4-headed attack of the Wolves Wing-T rushing attack. Green River has 3 of the top 10 rushers in 4A with Colter Rood(6^th), Cooper Palmer(8^th) and Drew Martinez(10^th) The Camels showed last week that they have the ability to stop the running game, now they just have to show they can do it consistently. The Camels have the 4^th ranked rush D, they give up just 178 yards per game. The Wolves have the #2 rushing attack in 4A. They average 301 yards per game on the ground. Something will have to give when these two teams take to the field at Wolves Stadium in Green River. Some other things to keep in mind Alan Sisel has a chance to surpass the 2,000 yard mark in passing yards. Currently he has 1737 yards passing, he would need 263 yards through the air to achieve this accomplishment. #5 Camels Turn Their Attention to #4 Kelly Walsh

The Camels are coming off a very cold victory for homecoming over the Natrona Mustangs 21-20. This snapped their 2 game losing streak and they avoided losing 3 in a row for the first time under Head Coach Vic Wilkerson. The Camels now turn their attention to #4 Kelly Walsh on the road in Casper at Dick Cheney Alumni Field this Friday at 7pm! These two teams couldn’t look more different on paper with the Camels having the #1 passing offense and 10^th ranked rushing offense in 4A and the Trojans have the #1 rushing offense and 10^th ranked passing offense in 4A. Seniors Tom Manning and Lucas Nolan lead the Trojans on offense. Manning is the starting running back who is 2^nd in 4A in rushing with 850 yards and 9 touchdowns and their quarterback, Nolan, is 3^rd in 4A in rushing with 762 yards and 11 touchdowns. As a team the Trojans rack up nearly 360 yards of rushing each game. The Camels rush defense will really be put to the test as they gave up over 250 yards of rushing last week versus Natrona. The Trojans will look to counter the vaunted #1 passing attack of the Camels with the #4 ranked passing defense. The Camels average 216 yards a game through the air and the Trojans give up just 126 yards passing a game. Homecoming for the Camels!

The Camels under Head Coach Vic Wilkerson have never lost 3 in a row and have only lost two in a row twice now after last week’s loss to Central 48-14. The only other time came back in 2007 when the Camels lost consecutive games early in the season to Green River 21-7 and Cheyenne East 31-14. East went on to win the state championship that year and the Camels advanced to the State Semifinals where they lost to East 35-34. The team will look to avoid losing their 3^rd game in a row when they take to the field against 2-4 Natrona. It’s Homecoming for the Camels and they will also be trying to start another home winning streak after Sheridan ended their 24 game home winning streak 2 weeks ago. The weather will be a big factor in the game as it is expected to just 9 degrees with a wind chill of –5. There is also a 30% chance of snow during the game. These two teams look very similar on paper with Gillette having the #4 offense and Natrona the #5 offense and Gillette has the #1 defense and Natrona the #2 defense. Both teams average just over 22 points per game and they give up 19 points per game. Something will have to give when the Mustangs and the Camels battle it out on Camel Field at 7pm. #2 Gillette Takes On #4 Cheyenne Central

The Camels are looking to rebound after their tough loss at home to Sheridan 23-14 at the 2009 Energy Bowl. They’ll try to get back to their winning ways in Cheyenne against the #4 Central Indians at 7pm. The Camels have proven week in and week out that they are deserving of the #1 defense they have in 4A football. A very balanced Central attack will be looking to exploit them like they’ve never been exploited this season. These two teams feature the top 2 defenses in 4A and the #3 and #4 offenses in 4A. The most glaring weakness for the Indians would be their pass defense, which comes in dead last in 4A. Alan Sisel and his very talented crew of receivers will be looking to pass all over the Indian defense. 2009 Energy Bowl!

The Annual Energy Bowl is Friday at Camel Field between #1 Gillette and #3 Sheridan. The Camels are trying to extend their home winning streak to 25 games and Sheridan is looking to win their 2nd consecutive game against the Camels. The Broncs won last year's meeting in Sheridan 49-21. That was the only loss for the Camels during their 2008 State Championship run. 

 

    The Camels #1 rated Defense will be put to the test against the #2 rated passing offense of the Broncs. This game will feature the #1 QB in 4A, Alan Sisel, and #2 Austin Woodward. Both QBs are seniors and both teams have learned to rely on their leadership week in and week out. Jordan Roberts will be back in the starting lineup after missing last week's game against East. Camels Look To Prove They're #1

The Gillette Camels are the new #1 team in 4A after they beat Rock Springs last week 24-8 and former #1 Green River lost to Sheridan 34-21. The Camels are looking to prove that they deserve the #1 ranking in 4A when they take to the field against Cheyenne East on Friday night at 7pm.  The Camels first 3 opponents have a combined record of 2-7, while the 0-3 T-Birds first 3 opponents have a combined record of 6-3. East will be playing their 4th consecutive top 5 team to start the season. The Camels have outscored their opponents by a combined score of 78-29 and East has been outscored by their opponents 143-70. The Camels come into the game with the #1 rated defense in 4A. They allow just 214 yards of total offense this year. East counters with the 6th ranked offense with 352 yards of total offense per game. Meanwhile the Camels will be putting their high powered spread offense up against the last ranked defense in 4A. East gives up nearly 455 yards of total offense per game. This should be the first real test of the season for the Camels and if the can win they will come into next week's rivalry match-up with Sheridan undefeated. That game is in Gillette, where the Camels have won 24 consecutive games. The Shell Food Mart Pre Game Show will begin at 6:30 with Ted Ripko, T-Birds Head Coach Chad Goff and Coach Wilkerson. Kickoff is set for 7pm.

Camels Improve to 2-0!

The Gillette Camels ran their home winning streak to 22 games with a very impressive 31-7 victory over the Laramie Plainsmen at Camel Field Friday night! In week 1 the Camels used the running game to overpower Evanston, but this time they used the air attack as Alan Sisel threw 4 TDs to 3 different receivers. The Camels will now prepare for Rock Springs when they come to town this Friday. Rock Springs is 0-2 on the season after being blown out for the 2nd consecutive week, this time at the hands of Cheyenne Central 52-0. Pregame will begin at 6:30pm and kickoff at 7pm!

Camels Open With Win and Now Look Towards Laramie at Home

Gillette made the long bus trip to Evanston Friday night and were able to come away with a tough 23-14 victory over the Red Devils. The Camels at times looked unstoppable against Evanston, but due to some mental errors and untimely penalties and turnovers, Evanston was able to make it a game late in the 4^th quarter. The Camels fell behind early 2-0 after an attempted snap to punter Robert Markve sailed over his head and out of the endzone. The Camels then scored 23 unanswered points behind TD runs by Alan Sisel and Jordan Roberts and on a fumble caused by Alex Coolidge, Steven Turpin picked it up rumbled for the Camels final score early in the 3^rd quarter. Evanston would tack on two TDs in the 4^th quarter, but it was too little, too late. Jordan Roberts was the difference maker on offense for the Camels, rushing for over 169 yards and a TD in his first varsity start. The Camels have their home opener this Friday against Laramie who had no problem with Rock Springs on Friday 35-14.
