Lady Camels Win It All!
The Lady Camels had been waiting an entire year for the opportunity to win a state championship and their patience and persevereance paid off with a 67-39 drubbing of the Rock Springs Lady Tigers at the Casper Events Center on Saturday! Gillette was led by Jordan Kelly with 17 points and Jayde Schelling had 16, including five 3-pointers! Jordan Kent showed why she was named the Gatorade High School Player of the Year in Wyoming by going out in her final game with 10 points and 8 rebounds. The entire team contributed to the Lady Camels success this year and especially in the championship game. All 7 seniors who were playing in their final game scored in the contest. Led by Schelling with 16, Kent with 10, Emily Moore with 9, Jessie Fortner added 6, Krista Schwindt and Autumn Moore each had 3 and Brooke Jorgenson got on the board late in the 4th with a free throw! The entire team not only outplayed the Lady Tigers on the offensive side of the ball, but controlled the defensive end as well. Emily Moore had 5 of Gillette's 13 steals. The Lady Camels forced Rock Springs into 23 turnovers, something Gillette has been able to do all season long. The Lady Camels deserve all of the accolades they've received this year and they showed why out on the court this week in Casper! Congratulations to Head Coach Mitch Holst and the entire Lady Camel team on a tremendous season!
